Met all my expectations and more!

Blaupunkt Toronto Receiver Control Bluetooth

Blaupunkt Toronto Receiver Control Bluetooth

I have a 2003 VW Eurovan and changed out the radio back when I bought it new to a Blaupunkt. I then changed it out a few years down the road to another one because I had no use for the CD changer under the seat and liked the idea of a SD card and front audio input. That radio was damaged on a camling trip. So, I noticed that Blaupunkt was being sold in the US again and I went after a deal on Amazon for $120 for this radio. I also bought the external microphone. I liked the Blaupunkt because it plugs right into a VW (the only change is that you have to switch the 12V switched with the 12V battery). I also had a Blaupunkt subwoofer and Thummer (steering wheel control). It took me about 10 minutes to switch the radio over and find a place to stick the microphone.

Everything works as advertised. I can sync my iPhone through Bluetooth for music and phone calls. The call quality is great because of the added microphone. I even ran a cable out from the back USB port on the radio and can now charge my iPhone and have either a direct connection for music or still use the Bluetooth. It's to the point, that I can leave the iPhone in my pocket and it syncs up right away. In addition to this, my Blaupunkt Thummer which I bought back in 1999 (its been in 3 different cars) works like a champ. I can control the radio from the steering wheel.

Only things that I can find wrong with it, is that if you leave the radio on all of the time but it is switched on and off from the ignition, is that the Bluetooth might not hook up right away and it defaults to AM when you get in and start the car. At that point, you have to cycle through the various items.

In the end, it works like a champ and just made me feel like I have a new van because I can now attach to the radio like most new cars do today. All of this for $120 is not bad. Honestly, I don't see the use for the CD player anymore but oh well.

  1. This radio is amazing and was exactly what I was looking for. I have no complaint what so ever about this item.

  2. I was looking for a car radio to replace the garish CD player in our '79 Porsche 911. For many years, Porsche used Blaupunkt radios as their original equipment car audio supplier. I was glad to find that Blaupunkt radios are still available, and still look great in a Porsche dashboard. It even has two "knobs" that approximate the Blaupunkt radios of the '60's.

It's icing on the cake that the radio not only works well, but it offers current features like Bluetooth and USB audio streaming and telephone connectivity. Both features work well with my iPhone 4, and were easy to set up. I was also pleasantly surprised that the price was so low, as I was expecting to pay quite a bit more for this brand.

Only downside to this radio was that the Blaupunkt-supplied image of the faceplate doesn't really show the finishes accurately. I was expecting an all-black faceplate, but the actual finish is mostly black with a lighter metallic trim piece that surrounds the central display area. I'm getting used to it, but would have preferred all black. Given that this lighter trim fingerprints easily, it's not the best finish for the bottom row of buttons that get used often.

All in all, a great upgrade to our classic car!

  5. I received my Blaupunkt Toronto 420 as fast as the vendor said. Ordering was smooth. Now the radio, the manufacture only specified that this radio is an Iphone/Ipod device and they are short changing themselves, I do not own an Iphone or any I device. I have a windows phone and this radio connect to my phone like they were made for each other. The Bluetooth connect automatically, only paired it once and all I have to do is just turn the radio on and that is. The sound is great, and the options that this radio has to bring your music is endlessly. It has USB connectivity (2) it has memory card and Bluetooth stream, plus cd, which I haven't use it since I have better options. I don't use the Bluetooth stream for music because I don't like it, it work fine, but is not my cup of tea. One thing you must do if you get the radio and want to use it as your hand free device in your car with your cell phone. Get a microphone and you will be amaze. Basically, I love this radio and I definitely recommend it. It is great.

  7. The price was right and the receiver looks good. Instructions could have been a bit better and the fit wasn't quite right for my truck, but fixed that up on my own. Works good and is easy to use.

  8. This a very good system, I like the Bluetooth streaming with my Phone 5. I could also plug my iPhone 5 to the available usb port it comes with and have full control of my music. You can also save your music on an SD card chip very cool!!! Many more features to long to list but I would recommend this system.
