Wish I had purchased this earlier!!

Blazer GB4001 02 Stingray Butane Torch

Blazer GB4001 02 Stingray Butane Torch

I'm quite pleased with this torch. My last torch of this type was a Ronson torch from Walmart, and while it got the job done while I was in college (music technology major, so quite a bit of soldering), it kept breaking in little pieces until the tank no longer held fuel.

Now, this torch: I like the fuel flow lever much better than torches that have a trigger that must be held or locked in place. The ignitor is conveniently placed for use by the thumb. It features a relatively secure safety that stops the fuel lever from moving.

The removable foot/stand is convenient for getting into tight spaces, and the torch will stand (albeit a little unstable) without the foot.

The air mixture controller works fine and allows for a tight blue tip flame all the way down to a flame reminiscent of a Bic lighter, except stronger. For those of you unfamiliar with these torches, the air holes must be fully or almost fully open in order to light it with the ignitor.

  1. We got this for cooking applications. It works as expected and is easy to use and regulate. The flame is perfect for the kitchen. The tank holds plenty of charge.

    Butane refill:
Like most others, this torch does not come with butane. It will take a standard butane bottle available at many common stores such as Walgreens.

  3. I am very new to soldering and purchased this torch a few months ago. I am very happy with this product. It is the right size for me and is very easy to use.

  4. I received my GB4001 last week, and have used it quite a bit over the weekend. Perfect size and weight - feels very substantial and well built. The range of flame sizes is nice, as is the ability to control the air inflow and thus the power of the 'torch', anywhere from regular lighter flame to large high-powered jet.

Pretty easy to operate one handed, and the little stand is very nice. Hopefully the combo of bright blue anodize and large size will keep me from losing it like I do with every other lighter in the house!

Overall, I'm very satisfied with this purchase. Easy to fill, use, and looks/feels/functions as well or better than expected. I'll update this review should problems arise, but I feel like this will stand the test of time quite well.

  5. Blazer makes the best hand torches. I have gone through plenty of other brands cheap $20 torches and they all went out in about a year or two of use. The blazer I have not owned long enough to say it lasts longer, but it has a life time warranty. Not to mention, it functions great. It is easy to turn on and it stays on which is great, no sliding a lock, no child safety latch every time you want to press the igniter. There is a lock feature but you only have to slide it one time to unlock it and one time to lock it.

  6. This torch works just fine. I was looking for a small torch to use primarily for electrical repairs on cars. It is well made, sturdy, comfortable to hold and use with one hand. I'm left handed, so opening the regulator lever on top with my thumb takes a little coordination, but isn't difficult. It can be unlocked, turned on, lit, extinguished, and locked all with one hand. I really like the lock feature so that it doesn't accidentally turn on and waste all the fuel. I also like the base stand so that you can easily set it down without worry of it falling over and melting something. The fuel tank is fairly large. I have only filled it once when I bought it a month or two ago. Overall, I am very satisfied with this torch. It is well worth the money. I have used an almost identical torch which cost about twice as much as this one.

  7. I bought this for use in my paracord bracelet, necklace, etc. making. This torch work great!! I tried 3 other torches before getting this one and they were ALL garbage in comparison. Sure wish I would have just nabbed this one up first!!

  8. Burns hot and ignites every time. Was worried it was going to be too big but it's the perfect size. Anodized metal gives it a intresting look and everyone has to pick it up. Feels heavy and somewhat expensive. Good product.

  9. I got this after looking in a dental catalog . It is 20 bucks cheaper than the catalog. It fills without mess. It does exactly what it says it does, and it is WELL MADE!
    I'd buy it again.
